NDC Boycotts Radio Show, Accuse Host of Disrespect

Opposition, National Democratic Congress, is staging a boycott of the morning show on Tamale-based Diamond FM's over what it says is ''utter disrespect'' by the host towards the party's representatives appearing on the show.

In a statement signed by the Party's  Northern Regional Communications Director, Alhassan Abdul Mumin, the NDC describes its decision as tough but added it has long been coming considering party communicators have consistently suffered humiliating treatment from anchor of the show, Mohammed Ibn Abdallah.

The party is aggrieved a national communications team member who doubles as Northern Region's deputy youth organiser, Mumuni Believer Likpalmo, was refused participation for no "geniune reason" on the newspaper review segment on yesterday's edition of the station's Breakfast show.

The statement added the party will resume participation in radio station's programs after a "befitting" apology is rendered to the deputy Youth Organiser and the NDC by management and talk show host, Mohammed Ibn Abdallah, affectionately called the 'Governor'.

Below is the full statement

The Northern Regional Communications Directorate of NDC wishes to inform the management of Diamond FM and the general public of the party's decision to withdraw NDC communicators from political talk shows of Diamond FM.

At every given time, the party considers the media as a crucial stakeholder in politics, governance and development of this nation. To this effect, it's not without pain, that NDC in the Region takes such a tough decision. Diamond FM particularly has been one of the radio establishments in this part of the country, which has played a significant role in shaping the discourse on politics and development of the area and must be accorded the needed recognition.

However, in recent times, the attitude of political talk show host, Mohammed Ibn Abdallah, popularly known as 'Governor', at Diamond FM has been insulting to the NDC.

Not withstanding NDC's utmost regard for rules, conventions and standards of the radio establishment, the host has consistently treated the party and its communicators with utter disrespect. On numerous occasions, Mohammed Ibn Abdallah has turned away party communicators sent to Diamond FM to represent NDC in political discussions.

As a political party, we certainly acknowledge the standard of communicators Diamond FM requires on its talk shows and very much respect that, when selecting communicators to represent NDC in programmes. Sadly, the host seems to bear certain grudges with the NDC, which the party finds hard to explain.

On Monday October 8, 2018, Mr. Believer Likpalmo, an NDC national communication team member and Dep. Northern Regional Youth Organiser was scornfully refused participation on the newspaper review session of the Diamond Breakfast Show, without any genuine reason. This is not the first but the most recent of many instances of disrespect visited on NDC and its communicators by the host.

We have suffered enough of the host's demeaning attitude and biases towards the NDC. We are a great political establishment that deserves the respect of individuals or groups in the media, as we accord them the respect they deserve.

Until the station and host apologise to the Regional communications officer, Mr. Mumuni Believer Lipkalmo and the entire communications team, the NDC will have no representation on Diamond FM’s political talk shows henceforth. Thank you.
