Over 5 Thousand Muslims To Do Pilgrimage This Year-Alhaji Haruna Eliasu,Hajj Board Deputy PRO.

The Ghana Hajj Board says 5,500 Muslims are expected to participate in this year's Hajj in Saudi Arabia,a significant reduction from the 6,200 that visited Mecca during last year's hajj.
According to the Hajj Board,the reduction in allocations to participating countries as regard the number of pilgrims was part of measures to put in place by authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to enhance safety and security of participants in the annual exercise.
Hajj is the World's largest religious gathering with some 3 million people across the globe expected in Mecca during the annual hajj period. In 2016, a stampede occurred and claimed the lives of about a thousand pilgrims whiles injuring several others,with some Ghanaians among the dead.
A deputy PRO at the Board in an exclusive interview with nasaramultimedia.com/North Star fm during an exercise in Tamale to capture biometric details of would-be pilgrims said the Saudi Government along with participating countries were undertaking series of initiatives to ensure an incident-free hajj.
Alhaji Haruna Eliasu who said preparations for this year's trip to Islam's holiest sites was 90 percent  complete revealed the exercise to capture pilgrims' biometric details hitherto was done upon their arrival in Saudi Arabia.He said the Hajj Board was undertaking the exercise for the first time in the country with the hope that it reduces the bureaucracies pilgrims go through whiles in Mecca. The exercise which is done along with the health screening of pilgrims will last for two weeks with subsequent arrangements to be made to capture every other pilgrims who may not have undergone the activity during the stipulated time.
