The SO FAR SO GOOD ALLIANCE wishes to express our profound gratitude to the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister for Education, Hon Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Finance and the entire New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for their vision leading to the implementation of the free SHS policy in Ghana.

The groundbreaking free SHS programme which commences on Monday, September 11, 2017 will benefit over 400,000 Ghanaian students many of who wouldn’t be able to get secondary education without the intervention of the policy.

With the introduction of the free SHS, we are very proud to state that parents and guardians will no more pay for:

● Tuition fee
●Admission fee
● Library fee
●Science centre fee
●Computer lab fee
●Examination fee
●Utility fee
There will also be:
●Free text books
●Free boarding
●Free meals for both boarding and day students .

Students in Agricultural, Vocational and Technical institutions will also benefit from the programme.

According to the 2016 Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report, out of the 53 per cent of students who are able to complete Junior High School, only 39 per cent of them are able to complete Senior High School education.

This clearly means that a significant portion of Ghanaian youth are unable to progress from secondary school to the tertiary level.

Secondary school education is very important to the development of our country because it is at the secondary level of education that the youth develop the ability to interface with the kind of global technology that people need to be abreast with in today’s world.

With the commencement of the free SHS programme, this drawback will be effectively addressed.

Again, the free SHS programme falls in line with the attainment of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Agenda, which aims to eradicate poverty, improve lives in a sustainable way for future generations.

This singular free SHS policy is a demonstration that the Akufo-Addo Administration is committed to alleviating the plights of suffering Ghanaians.

SO FAR SO GOOD ALLIANCE, therefore, call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to rally behind the policy and the government to succeed.

May God bless the Free SHS policy

May God bless the Education Ministry, headed by Matthew Opoku Prempeh

May God bless our President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

May God bless Ghana
