Fmr Car Maintenance officer under Mahama keeping 10 stolen cars-Head of Task Force

A former head of cars maintenance unit at the Presidency, Emmanuel Asem is alleged to have hidden 10 state cars

According to Daasebre Kwabena Ahenkorah who is the Head of Vehicle Task Force, the man paid for only one of the cars. He made the allegation in an interview with Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm. According to him, Asem is in possession of 4 pick-ups, 5 land cruisers and one other vehicle. The gentleman he noted was keeping the 10 cars at a private garage and when confronted, he claimed to have paid for them. He said, he bought the land cruisers at an outrageous price of GHc2, 000, GHc, 2,600, GHc3, 000 and GHc3, 000 respectively from someone he failed to mention. They did not even pay for the cars. They took them for free and he [Asem] told me he bought the cars as scraps. ‘’He bought the V8 for GHc 33, 087.87. This figure is less than GHc40, 000,’’ he added.

Daasebre Kwabena Ahenkorah revealed he has retrieved two of the vehicles with 8 more left in his custody. He said, the remaining cars included the 4 Nissan Pick-Ups with registration numbers, GE 8013-09-a 2008 model; GE 6812-Z; GS 5904-5; GS 6811-Z-all these Pick Ups are state owned and he paid only GHc 18, 000 for all the four (GHc 4,500 for each).

He added, ‘’how can you be so wicked and keep these state vehicles when the president has complained that we don’t have cars for state officials to work with.’’ When asked how much a Nissan Double Cabin Pick-Up could be purchased he said, call Japan Motors and ask them, they will be able give you the cost because even a Camry was bought by government at $35,000 and the land cruisers at $120, 000 per one.’’ He has hinted of revealing more rot and stolen vehicles belonging to the state and when he’s dome with his investigations, he will name those involved.

His latest investigations he stated involves our 100 stolen cars adding, ‘’we have to stop this kind of act. It is not good for the country.’
